The older members of the Crips and the recruits were affiliated with the band's skill for many years to recognize the talent, both sporting and music, among its members, so Snoop was pressured to join the world of music and leave one hand drug sales on the streets. Later, Snoop recorded tapes home with his cousin Nate Dogg and best friend Warren G (stepbrother of Dr. Dre of NWA). Initially, Lil '1/2 Dead, Nate's cousin, was also part of the group called 213, named so because that was the then area code of Long Beach. This was partly in homage to the group 413 of Richie Rich, well known also by the then code of Oakland, California.

Success with Death Row Records Dr. Dre began collaborating with the young rapper, first on the main theme of the film Deep Cover, and then the debut solo album from Dr. Dre, The Chronic, along with other members of his former group , Tha Dogg Pound.
